The Top 100 Albums GW Never Talks About - 86. Faust - IV
This article was originally going to be on Throbbing Gristle, but I changed it at the last minute because that’s how I roll, baby: on the edge, pushin’ it to the limit, snowboarding from the top of an exploding mountain while chugging Mountain Dew and wearing tinted wraparound shades with the word EXTREME written on the frame. Also I thought two postpunk articles in a row would be a bit much and I wanted to change things up a little. So yeah, instead I’m gonna look at a pretty fantastic album that I’ve never heard anyone here mention at all, Faust’s ‘IV’.
![]() 86. Faust - IV (1973) Y’know, experimental music gets kind of an unfair rep from a lot of people: it’s made out to be some kind of dry, dour, po-faced thing, something made by a bunch of humourless engineering students tunelessly banging away on pieces of sheet metal and being as self-consciously artsy in the vain hope that this will distract people from their complete lack of anything approaching genuine creativity or talent. Well, OK, a lot of it really IS like that, but not all… Sometimes you get bands who are experimental almost by accident, bands just set out to have a good time and make shit that sounds good to them and who end up breaking the boundaries more out of a kind of weird, childish curiosity than any deliberate attempt at getting artistic credibility. Faust is one of those bands: they made extremely pretty, catchy pop songs that just happened to sound like they came from some parallel alien dimesnsion. ... Posted on August 28, 2008

GW Modder - The Nintendo DS
![]() Saying "Sorry" to my Nintendo DS ![]() To repent for my sins I went out into the English desert and meditated in a holy cave for 40 days and 40 nights, feeding on failed Sony data formats to keep starvation at bay. Returning home with the sour taste of betamax eating away at my gums, I logged onto the internet and ordered a replacement case from a respectable sounding Chinese merchant on that new-fangled auction site that the kids of today call eBay. After another prolonged 40 days and 40 nights, it arrived. ... Posted on August 27, 2008

The Hitchhiker's Guide to Game Development: Issue I
![]() The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Game Development ![]() Another learn lesson with Prof. Knight Good morning class, over the next few weeks our lectures will focus on discussing and evaluating the different methods and approaches that can be undertaken when designing a videogame; I will be pointing out where a lot of people go wrong as well as the many traps that lay ahead throughout the development process. Open your text books to page 1, you will see that this series is designed for general development, meaning it covers any game design program... ... ... There will be no talking until after the lecture! *Turns to face the Whiteboard* Issue I: Where to Begin? Starting a game is always the easiest part of development; once you have an idea, you naturally try to get the ball rolling as fast as you can by diving straight into it. Trap: When ideas flow, they are generally in short supply, trying to produce something when the idea is fresh is where a lot of people go wrong. In this issue, you will learn how to plan and organise a project so that it is ready for the next stage of development. ... Posted on August 25, 2008

Music Creation Interview: P-Tizzle [interview] [music] [creation]
Music Creation Interview: P-Tizzle
OHSNAP! OHSNAP! Interview with P-Tizzle ![]() I honestly spent hours on this! SO READ IT YOU ***** Apart from hanging out with DMX and wearing alcohol stained t-shirts P-Tizzle is also an MC in the Australian underground music scene. Lucky for us he's an active contributer to the music creation forum as well. This article was more like a two hour conversation than a formal interview in which we discussed everything from silver pants to wheat germ beer... ![]() Just me and P-Tizzle chillin.... “Guys in Q&A asking how to reach first base, Have a cry and make a topic “GW is the worst place!” Esh got G&D, GirlBones got narcotics, Every post of mine going up to awesome topics. Ramirez and DP chillin at a Fin-meet I’m at home just calling it a win-meet” Me: First off thanks for the interview, despite you being DIFFICULT to meet online due to your superstar status. P-Tizzle: No worries! Blame it on the time difference (since I blame that for everything else). Me: Lets start with probably the most important question of this whole interview, Do you consider yourself a wigger? Like when you see your friends are you like 'OH SNAP WHAT IT DO HOLMES!? And then C-Walk in a circle? ... Posted on August 24, 2008

This Week on GW - Week of 8/17 - 8/24
It seems to have a been a while since we've actually had this, so despite what the title says, this article is probably going to cover a little more than just this past week. Basically HL and Jet Son are lazy and/or forgetful, so I'm taking over this article for now. I give myself three weeks before I succumb to my own laziness and stop updating this thing, with my excuse being that you can search through the forums your god damn selves.
Anyway, since you've probably forgotten, this is a recap of some of the more interesting topics that have appeared on the forum in the past week or so. Let's see what we've got: General Corruption 2008 - Sir has a furry avatar, and I don't know him well enough to know if it's supposed to be ironic or if he really likes furries. Anyway, this topic is about issues that are ignored by presidents all the time or something. Reminders of GWr's in real life. - You guys are nuts, nothing makes me think of GW outside of GW, except when I'm dreaming about it. That might actually be worse though, fuck. ... Freeware Fridays #17: I got nothing [freeware fridays] [games]
Introduction
This is a shorter mini Freeware Fridays to bring attention to a couple games that I've recently enjoyed and to keep you busy. Tis all. This Issue's Games Pyrrhic Tales: Prelude to Darkness By: Zero Sum Software Genre: Role Playing Game ![]() Story: A bunch of heroes set out to crush the darkness...okay there is way more to it then that, but play to find out! Gameplay: This game is top down turn based D&D style Morrowind. It was once commercial, but sales sucked cause no one noticed it. :/ It's now free! The plot is truly non-linear, the combat is turn based and tactical, there are no classes, you can recruit NPCs into your party, and your attributes and choices have an actual noticeable affect on the plot and the characters you talk to. If you can get over the subpar graphics and the occasional crash bug, this game is a gem for any true RPG fan. Download Information: http://www.zero-sum.com/download.html has all you need to get playing! You can alternatively get it here: http://www.download.com/Prelude-to-Darkness/3640-7539_4-10166422.html ... Posted on August 23, 2008

Making 3D Games in Lite-C - Part 3
![]() Back in the year 1984 during a time when there was in fact no perpetual war (Sorry Orwell), ATARI released an arcade game called Marble Madness. Such was the popularity of the title, an early Electronic Arts got their hands on it and it was subsequently ported to most consoles and home computers. I was born in 1987 and I grew up in the 90s. I remember spending hours taking turns playing Marble Madness on my friend's Sega Master System. Fantastic. That's all very nice, Ed - but what has this got to do with learning Lite-C? Well, since we're on tutorial number three now I would like to give my students the opportunity to make a game that is beyond mere technicality and actually fun to play. Today I will be making a Marble Madness game and hopefully feeding you with the knowledge to create your own or something similar. Ready to begin? Tip: If you are new to Lite-C I strongly recommend that you have a go at my previous tutorials before attempting this one as it progresses beyond basic understanding. ... Posted on August 22, 2008

An interview by Strangeluv
♥ INTERVIEW WITH OCEAN'S DREAM ♥ The weather started getting rough, The tiny ship was tossed, If not for the courage of the fearless crew The S.S. Misao would be lost, the S.S. Misao would be lost. The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle With Gilli-game The Ripper too, The Misaoaire And his wife, The hype-r star The Chipsetter and Iaman, Here on Gilli-game's Isle. ![]() I open my eyes. Nothing but deserted shoreline. All my crew is dead. Stuck... on this strange isle. Nothing to do but walk so I start plodding along the coast. Maybe there's someone near. After half an hour of walking, I see a figure in the distance. A slim womanly figure. I get closer to her. I can see a little more of her now. She has supple breasts and firm thighs. Her eyes are big and blue... like the ocean. Was I dreaming? She looked like the woman of my dreams. Maybe she was a dream from the ocean. An Ocean's Dream. I approached her... trying not to startle her... SL:Excuse me, ma'am? ... Posted on August 21, 2008
