Only a month after their debut album, Lonely Hearts, hit the online airwaves the GW Troubadours were at it again with not one but TWO CD’s full of material. But with a community filled with musicians eager to experiment and improve themselves, it didn’t take long for 34 songs to be submitted. Despite clocking in at 2 hours and 17 minutes, Gaming World’s IRC channels were flooded on release day with members from Europe, America, and other corners of the world who were eager to hear the album in its entirety.

Ink Blots is the Troubadours’ first album to be based off a theme: insanity. From mind-twisting jungle electronica to the echo of a piano in an empty hallway to the chaos of layered acoustic guitars to the drunken sales pitches of Orson Welles, Ink Blots is enough to make any sane man lose his marbles. As the Troubadours’ first non-cover album, it deserves your attention for the ability of these members to crafted their fresh, original ideas into chaotic but well-composed songs.

From the Vault 1: GW Troubadours – Lonely Hearts (A Beatles Tribute Album)

In early 2006, sometime around March, a group of young and curious amateur musicians who had never met decided to work together to produce an album of music. Coming from different upbringings, musical backgrounds, age groups, and even continents they knew they couldn’t limit themselves to a genre. Instead, they chose The Beatles as their inspiration. They each hand-picked a favorite tune (or two) from the band’s massive collection and set off to recreate it as they saw fit.

Advised and organized by a man named Steel, on the 3rd of May, 2006, their honest renditions of The Beatles were released on streaming live internet radio to a small audience. The GW Troubadours were born. Partially lost in time due to dead links and forum reorganizations, this album is available here for your reminiscence and/or enjoyment:

Dug up from the underground vaults of the Troubadours’ estate…

Almost lost but never forgotten…

The long-anticipated, over one-year in the making*…

GW Troubadours Woodstock A Tribute EP tracklist

The GW Troubadours is the name given to Gaming World’s unofficial group of amateur musicians who get together for the common goal of creating music, having fun, and learning a thing or two from each other.

This EP is the shortest of all Troubadours releases, with only 4 tracks, and thus is a quick listen if you’re curious to hear what kind of varied musical talent GW harbors. Give it a listen!

Wow! Cool! Frankie Got Featured.

Continuing the Pixel Prospector talk

Congrats to member Frankie, who got featured yesterday for Sluggy’s Other Adventure. We might not be able to claim him as “ours,” but amongst many other things, Frankie made the sweet Foget smilies all over the forums.

The last version of the game came out last year, and it’s on hiatus. Hopefully there’s a release in the future. Regardless, Recession is also in the works, featuring music by Chef Boyardee.

Gold star for Frankie.

Since Drule is going to be reworking theAstrojone again, most of its old posts are going to be saved over here. They’re not quite ‘news’ anymore, but there were some good features there! They have been backdated, to correspond with their AJ dates, and so they don’t get in the way of new news here. Go back to the first one uploaded, Shocker, and continue from there.

Note that this is actually ongoing, so we just have six saved so far. There are more to come! I’ll list them all when it’s done. Stay tuned, folks.

Welcome to Gaming World 7 – A long-awaited community upgrade.

First off we’d like to thank everyone who accepted the brusque working style we adopted when developing this site. We felt the community had been too much talk and too little work in the past, so we decided to sit down behind closed doors and develop everything on our own. In the end we are happy with the results!

What we have now is a portal that is going to be connected to services that will be offered on the mainsite in the future. We have a lot of ideas for cool game development sections that are going to be added. but right now we have the blog, which will act as a news service for game development and other cool, creative efforts from all around the web. We will also feature creative content from our own community, and also provide a constant flow of indie game development articles and resources from various websites.

In terms of the forums not much is going to change there for now. We are going to continue to streamline, repair and improve it technically, but we also want to create a nicer atmosphere with more focus on creativity and resources. More competitions and events will be hosted, and we’ll be advertising the community a lot more in order to bring new members.

So yeah, that’s all for now. If you want to take part of the forum discussion you can head over to this topic.

And don’t forget to follow our constant development progress on http://twitter.com/gamingworld, or by subscribing to the RSS feed.

Enjoy GW7!
