Before getting to our community, a bit about the game itself. Soldat is a unique 2D online shooter with fast gameplay and relatively steep learning curve but it won't take long to get hang of the game and its basics. And the best thing about Soldat is that it's completely free!



Soldat has various gamemodes, such as Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Infiltration, Rambomatch and Hold the Flag, just to name some. The game's weapon selection is vast, ranging from automatics to semi-automatics, and even a few melee weapons such as the combat knife (which is throwable though) and chainsaw. The controls are simple, although some things like grenade jumping and backflipping are difficult to master. The game has many customizable features, including custom gamemodes, maps and textures. Overall, Soldat is one of the most diverse and fun shooters I've played.


In my opinion, this is the best Soldat video out there and I recommend everyone to check it out as it got some really nice kills and ace editing as well. If you just have the patience, I suggest downloading the video so that you can watch it in good quality because it's likely that you are going to miss some of the finer details in the youtube version.







Soldat is one of the most popular games on GW and it's been played here for years now. The reason for Soldat's popularity on GW is largely due to three reasons. One, Soldat is the best. Two, it's free. And last but definitely not least, we have a great and friendly community! Many of my best moments here on GW have been playing Soldat or just chatting in #gwsoldat, which is not only restricted to talking about Soldat as it's really a community of its own and we talk just about everything and everyone is welcomed to join.

Our Soldat community is mainly focused on IRC and everyone who wants to play Soldat with us should join us on #gwsoldat because it's much easier to actually take part in games that way as that's where we organize our games. We have a dedicated server in Europe and a fantastic bot (read more about our servers, bot, rules and other GWSoldat related information here) which makes playing and organizing games simple and fast. The most popular gamemode here on GW is CTF but we really want people to try other gamemodes as well and that's why we are going to be hosting some cool events, and more about that in the next section.

I just really want to encourage everyone to download Soldat and hopefully play it actively because even though it's not perfect, it's still probably my favorite game and so much fun playing with people you know.






We'll be having a Soldatfest every Saturday at 7PM GMT (2PM EST) when everyone can just join our server and we'll just go with the flow! Although we are probably going to play mostly CTF, other gamemodes will be played as well so make sure to check the blog and Netplay forum for updates and information about our plans with the Saturday event!


We are going to give away one premium to one of #gwsoldat players every month starting May. Details on this will be revealed at the end of the month but what I can say now is that you aren't required to be good or win against other players to take part in this!


Every now and then we are going to have a special week on #gwsoldat and we'll be doing something to encourage players to try out different things and to have fun in different gamemodes. We are going to be playing custom gamemodes such racing, dodgeball, climbing or even Soldat RPG. There are some really nice and creative gamemodes out there and they are a lot of fun to play every now and then. We are also going to be showcasing custom maps, normal gamemodes and other game options such as realistic or survival. This is going to a spontaneous kind of thing and we won't be doing these too often!


Competitions have always been popular on GWSoldat and we are definitely going to continue with the tradition. These are the most difficult to set up and we want to get more players before running a competition but you can look forward to some competitive Soldat fun as well!
