Lars music creation interview
Music Creation Interview: Lars
THIS IS INTERESTING YOU MUST READ ![]() Despite our forum generally focusing on games we also have some great musicians, this is the first in a series of (I don't know how many) interviews with contributers to the music creation forum. Hopefully this will give everyone some insight into the creative process behind making music and provide the opportunity to create some interest in discussing some of the Troubadours previous and upcoming projects. Realisticially with all the stuff happening at Gaming World it should probably be renamed Gamingmusicartpedofillia world but that wouldn't be such a great name. SAY HELLO TO LARS AKA LADIESMAN 282 EVERYONE Lars: Whassup Gs Me: Ok lars little man, tell us about yourself, why did you first join gaming world? Lars: Same thing as for all, I guess: RPGMaker. I remember hanging out at Don's place for a while and hanging with the Heresy crew (former GGZ) before finally joining GW. I guess the Q is a bit two-sided though, since I got banned and managed to get back once again. The second time it was for the soldat community. ![]() Me: I read somewhere that 80% of Icelandic people wont deny the existance of hidden creatures like fairies and elves, how true is this of the Finnish people? Lars: Yeah, the Finnish are all alcoholics and bums so I figure it's just about the same there. The only problem is I'm Norwegian so I'm guessing this is slightly off target? Me: Those places are all the same so thats IRRELEVANT ok? (Editors note) I saw a documentary where Icelandic people like will be playing soccer and if they kick a ball into a "fairy bush" they will just leave it there so as not to disturb the little people. EUROPE IS FULL OF KOOKS [b]Me: When did you first get into making music? Lars: I basically started fiddling with midi files a bit back in the day when I was like 13 or 14, but I didn't really get into it until I started playing guitar when I was about 16. I used this tab program called Guitar Pro that enables you to write a guitar sheet (or a tab) in midi format and I just fiddled around with that alongside my guitar. Me: Can you remember what your first song was? Lars: I can't honestly remember... My first real song is a song called Agent which is shitty metal. But the one I actually recorded and added lyrics and could call a SONG must've been... “The Cause Justifies the Means.” I started out making shitty metal and then shitty videogame music. Then the Troubadours started up and I decided I wanted to be a part of that and I did a Beatles cover. Eventually Chef got around with GW Unit (this might've been before Troubs) and I wanted to copy his style because it seemed really doable from where I was standing. ![]() TRUE METAL Me: What were some of your most inspirational favourite bands growing up and who are some of your favourite bands now? Lars: Metallica and Pink Floyd were easily the two most important for my musicianship. They both taught me two important sides of writing music. Metallica made me aware of how songs can be built up while Pink Floyd helped me grasp conceptualism. As for these days I don't really listen to bands or artists that much. I generally pick up single songs or parts of albums that I like and leave the band or artist alone. Like back in the day, whenever I'd hear a song I'd dive headfirst into the discography of said band or artist. I never do that anymore, it's generally not something that pays off. I don't know, it always seems to me that artists and bands mostly can't get their shit together, but sometimes randomly happen to do a stroke of genious and release a good song or a good album and that's it. If I start at the best and start working through their catalogue, I mostly end up disappointed. ![]() Me: I know that you used to listen exclusively to metal but when exactly did you begin loosing your balls and recording music which sounds distinctly similar to vengaboys? Lars: I was deep tight with manowar for about a year. Nothing else mattered, musically, except that band. Ironicaly it was my own musicianship that changed it: When I started playing the drums I hated the fact that Manowar had such shitty drum parts so my bandmates talked me into playing Metallica which was much more interesting for a beginner. As for going into electronic music... I think actually Juno Reactor is responsible. Hmmm... "vengaboys" music, I'm pretty sure Samwell's What What In The Butt is the most inspiring piece. What an adorable young man in that video, I swear it feels like he can see me through the computer and that he is lusting over me. YUM! Me: What inspires you to make music? Lars: Whatever comes in, after interpreting, comes out. For me, music is still about learning to do what the pros are doing and not trying to find my own expression. I'd like to lay down as many possible expressions as possible before I find one where I can settle, at least for now. Me: Seeing as you make doof doof music are you a big partier? Like do you go to clubs and shit? Lars: I don't really go to the clubs as often as I'd like. Maybe like 7-8 times a year or so. I do party a lot though, and we mostly listen to Irish rock etc. I'm not really sure why I'm so centered on dance music, but I just enjoy music that's dancable a lot more both in sober and drunk (and other) state, and I really feel like moving around once I hear a good tune. I actually wasn't too interested in dance music until I went to St Tropez on a vacation and we were in this dance club and dancing around. I was with my brother and another pair of brothers and we were just having a great time and dancing around in an exclusive club. That shit really made me realise that dancing is fun, and even more fun is the music that makes it possible. The feeling of seeing someone dance to your music really is special ![]() Moby....A genius? Me: Do you have any favourite gw music releases? Lars:Couch's most recent is definately up there. I'm very fond of the GW Troub's Ink Blots, which to me still has some of the strongest songs the Troubs have released, especially Orson Welles Reads... which I still play at parties all the time. Other than that, PTizzle's and his partner's demo was pretty cool, I really dig some of the songs and I like their style. Couch friend? ![]() Me: Ok second to last question!: Any new projects coming up? Lars: Yeah I have a few in the works. PTizzle and I got a plan for a demo. We're not quite down with the details yet, but it's most likely gonna be conceptualised and cohesive. Other than that, I'm gonna re-record Leatherwood all properlike and I have a plan for a Metal/Glitch/Electro project that I'm dying to do. Also trying to make the Pink Floyd cover cd done, 'cause the shit I did with ATARI, Magma King, PTizzle and Cliff is seriously wack and I want people to hear what amazing talents these guys got that they're strongly showcasing on this song. Only problem is Cliff is fucking lazy and won't finish the uploader so I guess it's on hold until mid/late August / early September. Me: How big of an ANIME fan are you? Like if you had to choose between family members and an episode of naruto what would you go for? Lars: Haha, I remember back in high school I had a friend who was deep into anime shit. He showed me an episode or two of Cowboy Bepop and that's about the experience I have with anime. As for choosing between family members and naruto... It's an interesting time to ask that question. Normally I'd go for family but atm I'm not quite sure....... I don't even know if Naruto is a guy or chick ![]() Me: Thats the appeal of anime characters, ANYWAY Gaming World thanks you for your contribution. Goodbye! Lars: Goodbye B) Me: Your answers were really good dude Lars:Yeah i wish thats what the cops said too.... Back in the day it was all about ANGRY and FEELINGS and whatever. I don't give a fuck about that anymore. These days it's more about HAVING FUN, SMOKING WEED, NOT GIVING A FUCK etc and often DANCING AROUND. I still appreciate conceptualism a la Floyd, but I'm not too deep into that shit.
