Music Creation Interview: P-Tizzle
OHSNAP! OHSNAP! Interview with P-Tizzle ![]() I honestly spent hours on this! SO READ IT YOU ***** Apart from hanging out with DMX and wearing alcohol stained t-shirts P-Tizzle is also an MC in the Australian underground music scene. Lucky for us he's an active contributer to the music creation forum as well. This article was more like a two hour conversation than a formal interview in which we discussed everything from silver pants to wheat germ beer... ![]() Just me and P-Tizzle chillin.... “Guys in Q&A asking how to reach first base, Have a cry and make a topic “GW is the worst place!” Esh got G&D, GirlBones got narcotics, Every post of mine going up to awesome topics. Ramirez and DP chillin at a Fin-meet I’m at home just calling it a win-meet” Me: First off thanks for the interview, despite you being DIFFICULT to meet online due to your superstar status. P-Tizzle: No worries! Blame it on the time difference (since I blame that for everything else). Me: Lets start with probably the most important question of this whole interview, Do you consider yourself a wigger? Like when you see your friends are you like 'OH SNAP WHAT IT DO HOLMES!? And then C-Walk in a circle? P-Tizzle: Nah, not at all. I can't stand whitebread people who speak Ebonics considering the very small African-Australian population we have. I don't dress like it or speak like it. My friends do treat me like one though and they love going "what up holmes yo!" or stuff like that. I gotta admit when I get drunk I freestyle and talk like Paul Wall a lot but it's in jest (or that's what I like to think!) But yeah, I do keep up with the culture and I wear 'hip hop brands' but I don't wear 4XL white tees that touch my ankles or anything. ![]() P-Tizzle only wears Capcom threadz.... (Editors note) Totally irrelevant but I remember my friends older brother told their dad that my friend really loved shiny baggy gangsta jeans so the dad got my friend some for his birthday and he hated them so much hahaha it was the best. They had Eminem written on the side in Orange, similar to these ones: ![]() Me: Anyway, so how come a thug like you joined gw? P-Tizzle: I was interested in getting into composition, mainly. Me and a mate were also messing around with RPG Maker and I wanted a few tutorials. We ended up spending six hours on a 'demo' and I haven't touched it since. I liked the members and saw there was a bit of a music community so I posted a bit, but I really only started coming on often late last year Me: Already it seems you are a large part of the music community, how would you describe your musical style!? P-Tizzle: My musical style is basically whatever mood I'm in at the time. I don't like to consider myself as a generic emcee, I really like to work with other genres and collaborate with as many different musicians as I can. GW has been great for this. I don't like talking about how good I am or anything like that but I try to say something interesting when I write lyrics. I've done the most traditional hiphop to metal mashups, electronica jams, trip hop and so on. I'm always looking for more chances like that! I feel bad recommending stuff at the moment because I've got some good stuff in the pipeline that isn't ready for release right now. Me: Thats really cool that you experiment so much with genres man. Are ya are working on new stuff? P-Tizzle:Yeah, quite a bit! I'm doing a solo demo with some great Aussie producers which I'm excited about and I'm going to do something with Lars. As well as that I've got another mixtape that'll be coming out in the next 6 months that I'm really excited about, I think it's by far the best stuff I've done. Me: The lars album is an electronic album I'm guessin? P-Tizzle:It'll probably be something dark and abstract. We're planning to make it a concept EP but nothing is in stone right now. It'll be pretty diverse I think but yeah, there will definitely be electronic influences. Oh p..please no. Not lars making more electronic “music” again. Me: Being an MC would take alot of guts I'd assume, particularly if you feel that you don't have the skill to match up to it. Most of us are confined to practicing in front of the mirror and constantly looking toward the door in fear that someone is going to walk in.... *Ahem, so how did you first start getting into rapping, do you have any particularly interesting memories? P-Tizzle:I started listening to hip hop when I was 5 and basically ever since about 10-11 I was freestyling and writing rhymes. I never considered myself an emcee, it was just something I did for shits and giggles and to make my friends laugh. When I turned 14 I got introduced to Australian hip hop and a lot of American underground stuff and I realized that I could probably have a go at recording a track. Some great memories include recording a crappy mixtape with an American accent with two mates from school in the AV club room, my first battle at a Scribe concert in which I choked in front of a huge crowd (I was 14 and scared stiff), my first gig at an underage club (where my friends forgot their lyrics). Me: Haha any actual fond memories? P-Tizzle: There's a few that stick out in my mind. When I qualified for a television hip hop competition and got to rap in front of 3000 people at a festival it was a great feeling and an adrenaline rush like no other. When I did my first track that people loved, it was really exciting getting compliments from people at school and being asked to do gigs was a real revelation in the sense that I actually started to think that I didn't suck! Me: I've always wondered how rappers came up with their names, like I mean some groups have pretty obvious ones haha like “Kids in the hall” or “bus driver” (who sucks) but what is your mc name and how did you come up with it? P-Tizzle: My MC name is Part 2 and it was through something really gay like "Wow I'm 14 and this is really PART TWO OF MY LIFE". It kinda stuck though and I like it so it works for me! PTizzle is a play on Part 2 that my mates called me for a while and I use it as an alias. (Editors note) ahhahah Gayest way of coming up with a cool name ever, sounds like an emo kanye west... ![]() Me: I noticed on your new mixtape you worked with a few other artists and some beat producers? Can you tell us a little about these guys and how you came to collaborate with them? Was it purely just a project between friends or what? P-Tizzle: It's about half and half as far as friends go. Michael Wang is a good friend of mine and a great singer but he mainly does live singer/songwriter covers rather than getting into the studio. Prince Adem is a mate who lives in Sydney and me and Trill are doing our next mixtape with him. Trill is one of my best friends and we've been doing music together for about three years now. He does most of the beats (he'll be doing all of them for the next mixtape and a couple on my demo) and is generally a stand up, hard working guy. Apart from that a lot of it is just people I meet at gigs or people I talk to online. We have a pretty strong unsigned scene down here. (see link at bottom of article for album) Me: Did you have a particular theme or intent in mind before making your latest album? P-Tizzle: Nah, it was mainly just me and Taskeen (Trill) deciding we wanted to put out a mixtape that sounded more like an album than being the one hundredth rapper to do some rhymes over *insert commercial beat of the minute here*. We wanted to make it versatile. A lot of alcohol also helped! I record up at his house in Queensland and it's basically like a big holiday when we do a project and I think that shines through in the product. I'm aware the CD isn't great but I'm happy with how it turned out and I think it's a good start as it's the first real thing I've had my name attached to. Me: Ok totally random but lets do a freestyle about umm... VEGETARIANS? You go first! (gives me more time heheh) P-Tizzle: Me: Here's mine: ![]() or ![]() I know which choice I would prefer... Me: Lastly check out P-Tizzle's GW based song: http://www.zshare.net/audio/1717327270da95c1/ Here are the lyrics YOU SHOULD SERIOUSLY READ THEM Thanks to P-Tizzle for the interview!!!!
